Straight from the grinder, coffee lands in clumps - dense in some spots, loose in others - and that unevenness is what causes channelling. What is WDT and why does it matter?

WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) uses fine needles to break up clumps and evenly distribute your coffee grounds before tamping. An even bed means water flows uniformly through the puck, which reduces channelling and gives you more consistent, better-tasting espresso.

How is this different from a normal WDT needle tool?

A standard WDT tool is stirred by hand, which takes practice to do evenly. This one does the work for you - press down and the needles spin automatically through the grounds, for faster, more consistent distribution with no technique required.

How do I use it?

Dose your grounds into the basket, rest the tool on top, and press down a few times - the needles spin and distribute as you press. Lift it off, then tamp as normal. It adds just a few seconds to your routine.

Will it fit my portafilter?
A WDT tool works inside the basket, so match it to your basket diameter: This one is a 58mm design. So only suitable for 58mm portafilters.

Do I still need a distributor and tamper?

They do different jobs. This breaks up clumps and evens the grounds; a distributor levels the surface; a tamper compresses the bed. WDT is the first and most important step - it's the one that tackles the clumping the others can't fix.
