Breville 54mm Bottomless Portafilter - Walnut Timber Handle

Sale price$118.00
🚚 Fast 24-Hour Dispatch from Our Australian Warehouse. Average Delivery Time: 7 Days

A naked portafilter that shows you exactly what your extraction is doing - and looks the part doing it. The rich walnut timber handle brings warmth and grip to a 304 stainless steel basket and spoutless design. Walnut sits between our lighter almond and near-black sandalwood: a darker, classic grain that pairs naturally with black machines like the Oracle and Dual Boiler. Fits Breville 54mm machines.

Why You'll Love It

* See every extraction - the spoutless design shows you exactly where channelling occurs, so you can fix it.
* Rich walnut timber handle - dark, close grain with a natural weight that deepens in character with use.
* 304 stainless steel - food-safe, corrosion-resistant basket and collar built to last.
* Correct 54mm, 3-ear fit - machined to the Breville 54mm grouphead spec; locks in just like your stock portafilter.
* Easier workflow - quicker to tap out and rinse than a spouted portafilter.
* Pairs perfectly with our High Diffusion shower screen if you want even water distribution to go with the visibility.

Dialing In: Quick Setup Guide

Using your bottomless portafilter
A bottomless portafilter immediately reveals any inconsistency in your puck prep. Here's what to look for:

* Good extraction: a single stream forming from the centre of the basket, flowing cleanly and steadily - no spurting or splitting.

Channelling:multiple streams, spurting, or flow that starts off-centre. Usually an uneven tamp, uneven distribution, or a grind that's too coarse.

For consistent results: Distribute your grounds evenly before tamping - a WDT tool or distributor helps.

Tamp level and firm - around 15kg is the common benchmark, but consistency matters more than the exact number.

Keep your grind fresh and consistent.
Seeing channelling? Check your tamp first, then adjust the grind finer.

Pairing tip: combine with our High Diffusion 54mm shower screen. The screen evens water distribution from above; the bottomless portafilter shows you the result below. Together they're the fastest route to consistently better espresso.

Why go bottomless?

A bottomless portafilter removes the spouts entirely, exposing the underside of the basket during extraction. That isn't just aesthetic - it's diagnostic. A well-prepared puck produces a single, centred stream that flows cleanly from the basket. Channelling, an uneven tamp, or a grind that's too coarse shows up immediately as split streams, spurting, or off-centre flow. For anyone learning to dial in, it's one of the most useful tools you can add - you stop guessing and start seeing.

The walnut handle

Walnut is a dense, close-grained hardwood with a naturally dark, rich tone that deepens over time. The handle is shaped for a comfortable grip during tamping and extraction, with a weight and balance that feels a world away from the plastic handle on most home machines. Where our almond is light and warm and our sandalwood is near-black and ultra-premium, walnut is the rich, classic, versatile middle - and it looks especially good against a black machine.
